Blue Eyed Indian Damsel

My hands were craving to do a digital portrait. So I went about creating this!

After I completed this illustration and added that filigree nose ring it somehow made me think of a demure Indian princess. Therefore I quickly added a backdrop of the pink City Palace of Jaipur, India (which I clicked in 2010).

Highlight (Illustration Friday)

Let's Highlight GLobal Love
©Ritu

As a newbie to Illustration Friday (this is my second submission) I am quite excited.

Infact I am more excited about the whole idea mainly coz I get to participate with so many brilliant illustrators here. Its soo good to see each one's unique idea and story behind the topics given each week.

This week's topic being Highlight has resulted in such a wide array of interpretations.

Mine is quite simple.  In a time marked with unfortuanate calamilities, the world economic melt-down, corruption, crimes and other such events, I am HIGHLIGHTING the need of the hour, i.e. GLobaL PeaCe & Love.. (hope I am not sounding like a beauty pageant contestant  :O )

Messenger (Illustration Friday)

The Little Messenger (Digital Version)

The Little Messenger (hand-drawn version)

This is my very first entry for Illustration Friday.

The little messenger does his work only with some little and sweet bribes.

I did a hand drawn  version first and then got tempted to digitalise it too.

It was fun and look forward to doing more every week!

Kookaburra brings Greetings

Kookaburra's Season's Greetings

I call it a quick 'recycle' of design. I converted a previously done up sketch of a Kookubura bird into a christmas card for my Aussie clients :o).

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year 2012

For the Next one

In the west we have the famous throwing of the bouquet. In my part of India, we have madram-vaippu where the bride/groom has the 'veto' power to select the next bakra ;o)

The Punjabis have the Kalira. (more on the punjabi pre-wedding tradions here).

My best(est) childhood freind got married last month and I have a camera full of colorful photographs.
It was a gala Punjabi wedding and the most enjoyable part were the pre-wedding ceremonies.

No matter which part of the world one might hail from, and how different each tradition, custom and ritual might be, I am sure there must be something in every culture which would involve the prospective 'next' ones.

Sonali jingles her Kalira on her unmarried friends and cousins, in anticipation of a few pieces to fall on them.

Her cousing brother too gets a fair chance with the Kaliras ;o)

I am not sure how and when this custom originated and whether it works or not.. but it surely was lot of fun :o)
