Adding Some Fun to Serious Business

I have been always a visual person. My notes in my text books, notebooks alike used to have loads of little drawings and diagrams more than words. Loads of arrows, text bubbles, typography, shapes and doodles to make the subject matter understandable and easily remembered.

Taking the same idea forward, here is one sketch note I did for a keynote presentation on Oracle CX Suite!

Gift Wrapping Mania

I have been a bit lazy in posting stuff here for a while. But hoping to get back soon.

Meanwhile, I am posting some fun gift wrapping stuff I did in the past months. I love DIY stuff, and love to get crafty to break the monotony of a humdrum life.

Christmas themed gift packing, when we played Secret Santa at work :)

Some playful packaging to be given as prizes on a Family Picnic Day :)

And finally an 'I had a Blast' giveaways for children.
Thank-you, for watching this space. I hope to be back with more fun-stuff soon.

Cheers,

RV

Colors of Life

Colors of Life, Mixed Media on Paper ©Ritu

Today it felt good to pick up my brush and paint after a long while and play with colours.

Getting up at 5:30 a.m and heading to Central Park at Rajiv Chowk for Colorothon 2014 seemed totally worth it!

Digital Caricature

©Ritu

She is B's one of the most favourite colleague and yes her boss too  :)
When she decided to resign and move to a new city for a better opportunity, B decides to give her something memorable. She gets in touch with me for a customised artwork to be framed and gifted to her lady boss at the farewell party.

Now the challenge for me was I have never met the lady and the pictures that B sent all looked so different from each other, as the lady kept experimenting with different hairstyles (curly, wavy, swavy, poker straight) and makeup in all pictures. I could not get a hang of her actual essence. But then after a lot of back and forth with B, I managed to capture her into my digital canvas...all set to soar high!

The Goddess in Every Woman

Celebrating the woman among us
 ©Ritu

It is the Durga Pooja season. No better time to post this concept artwork I did up recently.

The whole inspiration to do this illustration came from me being a part of the initiative of a small YWCA  group in formation of Noida region who are working towards the empowerment of the women from economically challenged backgrounds residing in the nearby villages of Noida.

This artwork draws inspiration from Durga to represent the goddess in each woman which arises when provided with the right tools/weapons for empowerment.

I have used the image of Durga  as an inspiration for women to fight for their rights as the goddess herself did. Any woman who manifests extraordinary strength and is totally unafraid to empower herself can be treated as a manifestation of goddess Durga.

There is Durga in every women, it only needs to be awakened. And all we need are the right tools for empowerment.

These tools include:

  • Vocational Skills,
  • Civic Education- awareness of rights and duties,
  • Health and Nutrition,
  • Gender Equality,
  • Financial Services (for micro businesses) and
  • Halting Child Marriage.

To know more check out the ywca website and the facebook page :o)

Happy Navratras and Durga Pooja!

Couple Caricature (M & S)

It is really a joy to create caricatures for adorable couples.

Here is a classic couply pose artwork for the young couple adorning their engagement ceremony attire.

all color coordinated and all smiles!

Since it is was meant to be a digital artwork my pencil sketches are very quick and raw and act only as a guideline for the final artwork.

And after a lot of refinement, patient rendering and careful mounting-framing we have the end product here...

Wishing them all the good things for their new journey together..

Book Cover Illustration

The printed cover

St Thomas, one of the 12 disciples of Christ sailed across continents and reached the Malabar Coast in 52 AD. It is he who introduced us to the gospel for the very first time.

Therefore for this book cover illustration I chose to have St Thomas with his iconic L-square on his arm and holding the 'Book' on the other hand as some of the famous story icons emerge out.

A Couple Caricature

S celebrates her first 'married' birthday today. Therefore I decided to make her a special birthday present..a couple caricature of  her sweetheart and herself.

I have around 1000 pictures of the couple from their wedding ceremonies, and I chose to portray them adorning their engagement attires. S looked gorgeous and wore a rich - bright- heavily embroidered lehenga that day which I would love to render and R looked sharp in a black-grey suit.

quick rough sketch
After a few rough posture sketches, I zeroed on this one. I wanted it to be simple, classic and romantic :o)

And after considerable refinement and digitization we have the finished artwork below...

And here is S, soooooper happy!

Jump (Illustration Friday)

“Jump, and you will find out how to unfold your wings as you fall”

It is a Ray Bradbury quote but a mantra in life I firmly believe in.
And it is good to be back to IF after a long jump time  ;o)

Celebrating with Pani puri

PANI PURI aka GOL GAPPA
©Ritu

It has been a ritual since we were 14, me and my bestie would head straight to the golgappa ( aka panipuri ) vendor after every end-term exam, start of every vacation or whenever we felt like it! These tantalizing little things were, are and always will be our mode of celebrating the little joys of our life! (and yes now that we are no longer teenagers we can surely graduate to vodka golgappas ;D )
I am finally finished with my third illustrated children's book. So I did up these 'cuteys' as a symbolic mode of celebration! YAYEEEEEEE

Rohit Bal poses with my invite design- Kimaya Crest Key

I am home..YAY!! and while going through some of my old folders I came across this picture which was taken in 2008 during the launch of the Kimaya Avenue Stores in Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai. I did the invite design for them.
It was a luxurious black leather box  containing 3 customized swaroswski (well fake ones!) studded key, with the Kimaya logo crest. Each key had the details for the 3 exquisite store openings. And the guests were meant to carry the respective keys along with them for the opening event! Well most of the social butterflies didn't bother much, but it was really very sweet of Rohit Bal  (India's ace fashion designer) to be so sporty and actually bring it along AND also pose for a picture with it... He is one cool guy!
